– The fragrance isn’t for everyone
Despite trends, if you look after your beard you will never be out of fashion. To help you find the best beard oil for men and keep you looking great, we’ve decided to review the Smooth Viking beard oil. The Smooth Viking Company started in 2014 and now offers a whole range of hair care products. They have beard oils, balms, conditioners, and pomades. Then there are styling clays and forming creams, as well as dietary supplements for improved hair growth.
This beard oil is a mix of all natural oils and ingredients; you can read the entire list on the packaging. There are no hidden ingredients or harmful chemicals included. This isn’t anything out of the ordinary, but it’s great to know that most of the beard care companies follow these principles.
The exact amount of product that you need to apply isn’t specified, but it’s subjective anyway. We tried 2-3 drops at first and found it to be a good start for beards that are up to a month old. The growth rate can vary from person to person, so use this as a starting point. Just like with other oils, we first spread it on our palms and then applied it while massaging the skin underneath our facial hair. Taking your time to rub the product in will give you with the best results. Furthermore, you will improve blood flow and promote hair growth.
This product comes in dark amber glass bottle that contains 2 oz or 60 ml and which has a dropper in the cap. The dropper itself could be a bit better, but it’s not a deal breaker.
- Olive, Moroccan Argan oil
- Avocado, Pumpkin seed oil
- Charge / Shaving Time: 1 hour / 45 minute
- Sweet almond, Castor, Jojoba oil
- Pure essential oil and Vitamin E
This beard oil comes with an extensive list of ingredients that all offer a particular benefit for your skin and facial hair. These ingredients include these oils: sweet almond, avocado, Olive, Moroccan Argan , Pumpkin seed , Jojoba , and Castor. There is also Vitamin E inside and some pure essential oil.
This ingredient has anti-fungal and antibacterial properties, but it’s also high in minerals and proteins. Castor has a long history of use when it comes to treating acne, rashes, and most importantly hair loss. The best oil for beard growth should always contain this ingredient. Finally, Ricinoleic acid in Castor also helps balance skin pH levels.
Vitamin E is both an antioxidant and nutrient; it’s a part of many cosmetics products. It can be a very beneficial ingredient for beard and skin care, especially in combination with other antioxidants.
Overall, most of the ingredients have similar properties. By using them together, Smooth Viking hopes to boost their benefits.
Our first impression from this product is that it is quite thin in comparison to others. If you like it to be thicker, you might want to consider buying something else. We didn’t mind that much and didn’t have any real trouble applying it. The consistency might be a problem if you like to use it to shape your beard.
As far as fragrance goes, some users report it being unpleasant or being strong. Our experience was that it wasn’t that strong. There wasn’t much of a scent other than the smell of the oils themselves. Our final verdict on the smell is that it isn’t anything remarkable.
Since this oil isn’t the thickest, we didn’t have much luck softening and taming coarse or bushy facial hair. This might be because of our limited testing time, thought. What we did notice is that this product helps with the initial itchiness of a week or two-week-old beard. Thus, you can expect the flakiness behind irritation to subside if you use this product.
As advertised by manufacturer itself, this oil should be used along with their conditioner. Judging by our experiences with the oil, the results could have been even better.
Smooth Viking has many different products, but we wanted to make the best beard oil review for the products on our test. Although this is not the best beard oil we’ve come across, it is a good option for beginners and those that don’t want to spend too much money. If you want something better, it will come at a cost. The good thing is that this oil comes in a 2 Oz bottle, so you’ll have plenty of it to try out before moving on to other products.
The main downsides are its thinner consistency and unremarkable smell. Other than that we were happy to use it on our beards. This oil handled skin irritation well and softened finer beards.
