Honest Amish has created something special with this beard balm. If you know this company at all, you know they make some of the best oil for beard. The team behind is from Amish Country, Pennsylvania. Everything they do is hand-made and the result of years of experience. Since beards are an important part of Amish life, you can be confident that their products are top notch.
Each ingredient in this balm is natural and chosen for the benefits it provides to your skin and facial hair. Honest Amish is so dedicated to their approach that they don’t use plastic to package their products. This balm came in a recyclable tin and burlap bag along with a card for care tips.
Applying this product is fast and easy in our experience. You should start with a tiny, pea sized amount and rub it between your palms before you apply it to your beard. Rubbing it in your hands helps melt it and get it absorbed faster. Just like with other care products, a little goes a long way, so don’t overdo it. You’ll find that this balm spreads out nicely. The best time to apply this balm is after a shower. For best results, don’t dry out your beard, leave it a little moist.
The product comes in a 4-ounce tin made out of aluminum. You can also get it in a smaller, 2-ounce package. When you keep in mind how little you need to use with each application, even the smaller tin can last a long time.
- Argan oil, avocado oil, apricot kernel oil.
- Grape seed and virgin pumpkin seed oil
- Shea, Aloe, Cocoa, Kokum
- Essential oils
- No additives, fillers, etc
There are a lot of products in this beard balm, and they are all natural. Honest Amish also prides themselves on not using any additives or fillers. There are no man-made chemicals as they call them in their line of products.
With this product, you get a mix of 15 different hair strengthening ingredients. They infuse them into a base made of many carrier oils. These include Argan, Jojoba, Virgin Avocado, Pumpkin Seed, Grape Seed and Apricot kernel oils. After infusion, they add many nut and fruit based butter like Shea, Cocoa, Kokum, and Aloe, but also essential oils.
When it comes to fragrance, there’s a somewhat woody smell to this beard balm. The scent also has traces of sweet in it, probably from Cocoa butter. A hint of Kokum butter gives this balm an interesting twist. Ultimately, the fragrance is mild and disperses soon after you apply the balm.
Now onto the part that interests everybody the most – how does it perform? During our time testing this balm, we had nothing but great a great experience.
Our first impression was the consistency and texture. We found that this balm is softer than other care products which made applying it easier. It took us less time to rub it in and give our skin a massage. We also noticed that we needed less of the Honest Amish Beard Balm to get our facial hair conditioned.
We like the use of avocado oil in this balm since it contains a large number of different nutrients. This oil has loads of Vitamin E which is excellent for repairing hair and improving hair growth. Some of this is subjective of course, but among the products we tested, this balm felt like it was the best for damaged or dry skin.
When it comes to itching, this balm was one of the fastest acting ones. It gave pretty quick relief. What’s more, after a few more days of use, it was quite effective at treating dandruff and flaky patches of skin. If you have a longer beard and need to use a lot of product, than you’ll love this one. While trying it out, we barely made a dent in the bigger of the two tins.
What sets this beard balm apart from the competition is its use of Kokum. Kokum is famous in India as a natural antibiotic. It helps get rid of harmful bacteria from your skin. Furthermore, it has properties that help fight allergies and skin rashes.
In concluding our review of this product, we have to say that it is one of our favorites. If we had to choose the best recipe, this would be it. If you have sensitive skin that doesn’t like additives and fillers, then this product is the one for you. Each part of this product is natural, while some are relatively rare for the industry.
The approach that Honest Amish employs is hard not to like. They try to pick the best ingredients; they use recyclable tins for packaging and sell their USA made products for reasonable prices.
